The San Francisco 49ers cannot seem to shake the injury bug this season.
Head coach Kyle Shanahan announced Friday that starting quarterback Brock Purdy would not play Sunday due to a shoulder injury, via ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Backup passer Brandon Allen will take over under center for the team’s Week 12 matchup against the Green Bay Packers.
Purdy was limited in practice all week with shoulder soreness but his condition must’ve worsened to have Shanahan rule him out two days before kickoff.
Sunday will be the first time Purdy has missed a game for San Francisco due to injury since taking over in December 2022.
This will be Allen’s 10th career start since entering the league in 2016 with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Joshua Dobbs will be his backup on Sunday.
In addition to losing Purdy, San Francisco will be without star defensive end Nick Bosa who is dealing with left hip and oblique injuries.
