The 76ers might be beyond saving.
Philadelphia continued its horrid start to the 2024-25 season on Monday with a 106-89 road loss to the Heat.
With the loss, the Sixers dropped to 2-11, tied with the Wizards for the most losses in the NBA.
Philadelphia squandered a 19-point second-quarter lead, 46-27, scoring 33 points in the second half.
It’s been the league’s worst shooting team, and that trend continued as Philly shot 41.7%, including 24.4% from three-point range. The 76ers entered Monday 30th in field goal percentage (42.8%) and 29th in three-point percentage (32.3%).
Center Joel Embiid and Paul George, who Philadelphia signed to a four-year, $212M contract during the offseason, have been rusty since beginning the season injured.
George, appearing in his seventh game, scored 18 points on 5-of-13 shooting, including 1-of-7 from beyond the arc. Embiid, playing for just the third time this season, was 5-of-11 with 11 points and eight rebounds, only one coming on the offensive end.
For a team that misses as much as Philly does, that’s problematic.
While the duo might improve the more they play together, the Sixers don’t have the luxury of waiting. Including Monday’s game, Embiid is shooting 32.4% this season, while George is 28.8% from deep.
Guard Tyrese Maxey (hamstring) remains out but could soon return.
Philadelphia has dug itself into a massive early-season hole, and five of its next nine games are against teams with a .500 win percentage or better.
The 76ers’ bad season might not get better anytime soon.
