17 North Parade returns with one other essential double-vinyl launch. Randy’s fiftieth Anniversary: Reggae Anthology – Chapter Two captures the golden period of Clive Chin’s productions from 1971 to ’76. That is the blueprint that gave rise to VP Information.
Randy’s fiftieth Anniversary Chapter Two tracklist reads like a roots reggae corridor of fame. Augustus Pablo‘s visionary Java sits alongside Carl Malcolm’s infectious UK chart-botherer Fattie Bum Bum. Black Uhuru, Horace Andy, Dennis Brown, Gregory Isaacs, The Heptones and Massive Youth all convey warmth.
Initially issued on CD in 2008, these uncommon recordings lastly hit vinyl. Reggae historian David Katz offers deep liner notes. Uncommon photographs fill the inside sleeves.
RANDY’S WAS CONJURING PURE FIRE FROM JAMAICA’S FINEST TALENT
Randy’s Studio held particular magic. Vincent ‘Randy’ Chin constructed it above his document store in downtown Kingston. He was a pioneering Jamaican entrepreneur who launched music in the course of the ska period and located success with the Trinidadian-born Lord Creator.
“The muse of the studio began in the course of the rock regular period, that’s one of many causes you by no means come throughout any rock regular tunes on the Randy’s label,” explains Vincent’s eldest son Clive Chin.
By late ’68, the studio was prepared, constructed above his standard document store at 17 North Parade. Its sparse, distinctive sound grew to become legendary.
The rhythm part was unbelievable: Sly Dunbar on drums, Lloyd Parks on bass, with Pores and skin Flesh and Bones holding it down. Engineer Errol Thompson and producer Clive Chin pushed boundaries collectively. They created one thing past customary reggae formulation.
Each Chapter One and this Reggae Anthology: Chapter Two doc when Randy’s was conjuring pure fireplace from Jamaica’s best expertise.
