Indiana Fever rookie guard Caitlin Clark made franchise history on Tuesday when she was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
The WNBA Rookie of the Year favorite averaged 25.0 points, 10.0 assists and 7.7 rebounds per contest from Sept. 2-8, a span where the Fever went 2-1.
Clark opened the stretch with a 24-point, 10-assist, 10-rebound triple-double during the group’s 93-86 victory vs. the Los Angeles Sparks on Wednesday. The feat made her just the sixth player in WNBA history to post multiple triple-doubles in a season.
Clark played a career-high 45 minutes during Indiana’s 104-100 overtime win against the Atlanta Dream on Sunday and recorded her 14th double-double of the year (a single-season franchise record). Clark finished the game with 26 points, 12 assists and five rebounds on 7-for-17 shooting (including 4-for-13 from three-point land).
The former Iowa superstar’s award on Tuesday comes on the heels of her Player of the Week honors for the period of Aug. 15-25 and Aug. 26-Sept. 1. Clark also won the league’s Rookie of the Month and Eastern Conference Player of the Month for August as well.
According to a release, the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer approaches the final four regular-season games on the Fever’s slate just 53 points away from breaking Seimone Augustus’ single-season rookie franchise record of 744 points scored.
When Clark entered the Association this summer, expectations were historically high. Somehow, the 22-year-old has surpassed them by leading the WNBA in assists (8.5) and all rookies in points (19.2), steals (1.3) and minutes per game (35.8).
With the Fever going back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016, the Caitlin Clark experience may just be getting started.
