The Green Bay Packers were dealt another blow on Sunday when quarterback Jordan Love suffered a groin injury during the team’s victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, MRI tests revealed the QB has a strained groin.
Despite the injury occurring on the opening drive, Love played into the third quarter before he would exit the game.
Even though Love previously missed two games because of an MCL sprain, he made his return against the Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 29. Since his return, Love has accounted for 13 touchdown passes and eight interceptions.
In three of those five starts, Love has passed the ball more than 30 times, something the Packers may want to keep an eye on, especially if Josh Jacobs continues to run the ball at a high rate.
After a relatively slow start to the season for Jacobs, who only rushed for 80 or more yards twice in the team’s first four games and failed to score a touchdown, the talented running back has accounted for 70 or more yards in three of the last four games. Jacobs also has three touchdowns rushing and his first career receiving TD during that stretch as well.
If the Packers keep maintaining some consistency on the ground and get their star QB healthy, the overall balance of the offense should result in fewer turnovers from Love.
Depending on how the week goes for Love, Malik Willis may get the start once again for the Packers. In two starts this season, Willis has passed for two TDs and rushed for a TD, in addition to passing for another TD in the team’s Week 8 victory over the Jaguars.
While the Packers take their four-game winning streak into Week 9 when they host the Detroit Lions in a huge NFC North showdown, a bye week follows. This would give Love another week to recover before the Packers return to the field.
