Stephen Curry is gearing up to return from his ankle injury.
NBA insider Marc Stein reported that Curry is now listed as “questionable” to return to the Warriors lineup for Monday’s game against the Washington Wizards. The update comes at the perfect time, as the Warriors are gearing up for a tough stretch of games over the next week.
Curry has missed the last three games for the Warriors with an ankle injury, but the Warriors survived without him. They won all three games and are now 5-1, sitting near the top of the Western Conference standings. Curry is now close to returning, and the timing could not be better.
The Warriors have impressed so far this season, but, being honest, their schedule has been soft. The Wizards are another easier opponent for the Warriors to face on Monday, which is why the Warriors may play it safe and keep Curry on the bench for one more game.
Getting Curry another game off to recover before the schedule gets scary could be helpful. After the Wizards, the Warriors are set to face the three best teams in the league in the Cavaliers, Celtics and Thunder. This stretch will really show if the Warriors just took advantage of an easy opening schedule or if they are back as true contenders in the Western Conference.
Will the team use Monday’s game as an opportunity to let Curry heal for a couple more days? Or will it be a way to get the former MVP some reps before the Warriors face a grueling three-game gauntlet? Regardless, the Warriors have some tough tests ahead of them that may reveal how good of a team they really are, and Curry nearing a return is welcome news.
