Rising star Shavon Leighanna David, known as Leighanna, is set to make a bold statement in the 2025 Carnival season with her latest single, Flowers. Known for her powerhouse vocals, Leighanna, a South Trinidad native, is ready to take the Soca industry by storm with a track resonating with music lovers across Trinidad and Tobago.
“I’ve been singing since I was three, and I’ve always known this was my path,” says Leighanna, reflecting on her journey in music. Encouraged by her father, a former singer, Leighanna began her career with songwriting before making her way onto the stage as a teenager. Her first release, Ah Feelin’ It, earned her recognition, and though she faced challenges in an industry dominated by established names, her passion and talent shone through. Over the years, Leighanna collaborated with artists like D Angel Journey and Terry Seales. Still, it wasn’t until after taking a break to refocus that she truly began to find her footing again.
The pandemic forced Leighanna to reassess her career, and in November 2023, she returned with the single Bam Bam Good, which DJs and major radio stations embraced. “I have a strong team now,” she says, citing her manager Zoe, assistant Jalyan, and international interest from Chris as key factors in her current momentum. “It’s an exciting time, and I’m ready to push forward.”
Leighanna’s new single, Flowers, is a heartfelt tribute to women, urging men to respect, appreciate, and cherish the women in their lives. Written by Kambon and produced by Shot Master J and Body Roc, the track is already gaining traction, with visuals that feature radio personality SupaHype. “This song is a powerful expression to men about the importance of women,” says Leighanna. “Women are the nurturers of life, and this is a reminder to respect and love them.”
Inspired by female Soca icons like Patrice Roberts, Destra Garcia, and Fay-Ann Lyons, Leighanna is ready to make her mark in the industry, and with ‘Flowers,’ she’s on her way.
