New Orleans Saints QB Derek Carr could not have placed the ball any better for WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling.
Carr found Valdes-Scantling for a 28-yard TD early in the fourth quarter against the Los Angeles Rams.
If that was not impressive enough, this catch from WR Dante Pettis on the Saints’ two-point conversion attempt tied the game up at 14.
Aside from a pair of field goals in the first half, the Saints offense had been held in check until that point.
On the heels of back-to-back wins over the Atlanta Falcons (20-17) and Cleveland Browns (35-14), the Saints have a 4-7 record. A big part of the Saints’ struggles has been their defense. According to TeamRankings, New Orleans is tied for 20th in opponent points per game (23.6).
Shortly after the Saints tied the game at 14, the Rams answered with a seven-yard TD catch from WR Puka Nacua to put Los Angeles back in front 21-14.
If the Saints are going to have any chance of contending going forward, they are going to need stops from their defense and more plays like they got from Valdes-Scantling and Pettis.
