The Boston Red Sox are still in the hunt for outfielder Juan Soto.
According to Chris Cotillo and Sean McAdam from MassLive.com, the Red Sox are considered to have done everything right in their quest for the star outfielder. They reported that an industry source gave the Red Sox “an A+” for their attempts to land Soto. However, there is only one Juan Soto, leaving any team still alive in his market to look for a Plan B.
That player may be waiting in the wings for the Red Sox. According to Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe, outfielder Teoscar Hernandez has told people that, while he would prefer to stay with the Dodgers, he is interested in playing for the Red Sox. Abraham noted that Hernandez is “intrigued” by the idea of playing at Fenway Park and is a fan of Red Sox manager Alex Cora.
Hernandez had the best season of his career in 2024. He produced a .272/.339/.501 batting line in his 652 plate appearances, hitting a career high 33 homers and 32 doubles. Hernandez was named to his second All-Star Game, won his third Silver Slugger award and became the first player in Dodgers history to win the Home Run Derby.
Hernandez would also fill a need in the Red Sox outfield. Outfielders Jarren Duran and Wilyer Abreu are left-handed hitters, as is top prospect Roman Anthony. Designated hitter Masataka Yoshida, is also left-handed. Adding the right-handed swinging Hernandez would bring balance to the lineup while adding another powerful bat.
The Red Sox are still alive in the Juan Soto sweepstakes. Should Soto sign elsewhere, Teoscar Hernandez would be a perfect Plan B.
