Keelon Russell has a very bright future if everything he’s accomplished as a high school quarterback is a precursor to what he can do in college.
Russell is a five-star quarterback from Duncanville, Texas, who recently signed his letter of intent to play college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide. He was ranked as the No. 2 quarterback in the nation as well as the No. 2 recruit overall, according to the 247Sports Composite. Only 5-star quarterback and Michigan signee Bryce Underwood was ranked higher than him.
On the field, Russell has his Duncanville High School squad at 13-0, and they’re playing in the semifinal round of the Texas 6A D-1 playoffs this weekend. They’ve already won two state titles in a row and are looking for a three-peat.
Off the field, Russell just took home one of the nation’s biggest individual honors He’s been named the Gatorade National Football Player of the Year.
Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs, who played at Alabama, surprised him with the award.
