Despite losing the Juan Soto sweepstakes, the New York Yankees and general manager Brian Cashman won’t be letting this offseason go to waste. The first splash acquisition comes in the form of starting pitcher Max Fried, who agreed to a historic eight-year, $218 million contract on Dec. 11. Fried made his second-career All-Star appearance in 2024 with the Atlanta Braves, and his 3.25 ERA was the fifth-best in the National League. The Yankees still have work to do, but this should be an encouraging sign for fans worried about their organization’s ambition to return to the World Series.
Which brings us to today’s quiz. While pitching a complete game has become an increasingly rare achievement in modern baseball, between Fried and Gerrit Cole the New York Yankees now have two guys capable of going the distance during any given start. With that being said, how many pitchers to pitch a complete game (or at least nine innings) in 2024 can you name in five minutes?
Good luck!
