On a night in which they shot 50% from three-point range, No. 6 Kentucky came away with a 95-90 road victory over No. 14 Mississippi State.
All five Wildcats starters were in double figures for the game.
Jaxson Robinson led the way with 27 points. Robinson was 7-of-10 from three-point range and the 27 points was a season high. Otega Oweh was the second-leading scorer with 15 points and eight rebounds.
Amari Williams scored 10 points and collected 12 rebounds, good for his third double-double of the season and first since Kentucky’s second game of the season.
Point guard Lamont Butler had a near-double-double with 10 points and eight assists.
As did the Kentucky starters, every Bulldogs starter finished in double figures. Cameron Matthews led that group, finishing with 19 points and eight rebounds.
Josh Hubbard (15), RJ Melendez (14) and Claudell Harris Jr. (13) were close behind Matthews in the points category.
While he didn’t score much, Shawn Jones Jr. did a lot off the bench, He finished with three points, three rebounds, five assists, two steals and three blocks.
Expecting Kentucky to shoot 50% from three every game is unrealistic, but if the Wildcats can stay somewhere around the 40% range for the rest of the season, they will have a chance to win the SEC.
The schedule doesn’t get any easier, as the Wildcats’ next two games are against two nationally ranked opponents in Alabama and Texas A&M.
Mississippi State will travel to Auburn and face off against the No. 2 ranked Tigers on Tuesday, who will be without star player Johni Broome.
