Generally probably the most highly effective inventive initiatives emerge from surprising encounters. For Ionne, the creative alias of Maurice Harris, what started as a routine direct message on Instagram developed into a completely new musical path. “I used to be neck deep and three years into manufacturing on a brand new full-length album, A Gentle Untruth, when Tea Montgomery DM’d me to ask if I’d be desirous about a collaboration,” Ionne remembers.
That message led to a gathering at an area café, the place Montgomery, an internationally acknowledged dressmaker, proposed an formidable thought: creating an authentic soundtrack for his upcoming runway present, Pathos, which came about at New Haven’s Union Station. With lower than 60 days to compose half-hour of music, Ionne embraced the problem. “Regardless of the tight timeline, I couldn’t cross up the chance to faucet into this wellspring of inspiration,” he shares.
The ensuing EP, Pathos, is a five-track exploration of emotional states: satisfaction, envy, imposter syndrome, endurance, and acceptance. Every track attracts from Ionne’s signature fusion of Afrocentric EDM, soul, and atmospheric digital influences, making a sound that feels each intimate and expansive.

The opening monitor, “Delight,” stands as one of many EP’s most private moments. Impressed by James Baldwin’s essay “Down on the Cross,” the track displays on the resilience and dignity of Black males in America. “I’ve this expertise and was aching for an outlet,” Ionne explains. Recorded in a single steady take, the vocal efficiency pushed him to an emotional breaking level, culminating in a robust session that left him in tears.
Different highlights embrace “The Love of Your Life,” envisioned as an “imaginary Sade collaboration,” and “Pathos,” the closing monitor, which channels the uplifting power of Above & Past. “Everyone Mentioned,” initially a home monitor created for the runway, was reimagined for the EP with amapiano rhythms and 80s UK soul influences, evoking the timeless vibe of Soul II Soul.
Visually, the undertaking was delivered to life by means of a collaboration with photographer Kasaad Bullock and artistic director Stephen Jackson of The Collective NHV. The accompanying visuals mirror the hanging aesthetic of Montgomery’s Union Station runway, bridging style, music, and emotional storytelling.
Pathos is greater than a set of songs; it’s an emotional journey. From the alienation expressed in “Everyone Mentioned” to the liberation celebrated within the title monitor, Ionne invitations listeners to discover the nuances of identification, self-worth, and private progress.
