Danish outfit Complete Hip Alternative have lengthy mastered the artwork of fusion. Their relaxed but energetic album In Dub weaves reggae with soul, jazz and African rhythms, powered by refined brass and delicate percussion.
Their current albums, Anyankofo and Would It Be The Similar, drew closely from collaborations with Ghanaian musicians, infusing their work with genuine highlife flavours. However round 2022, the band took a daring step sideways. They handed chosen tracks to completed dub producers, curious how their compositions would fare when stripped naked and reimagined.
The result’s In Dub, an eight-track assortment curated by Karsten Frehe of Irie Ites Music. Aldubb kicked issues off with a dub of Disconnected from their 2020 album Bliss. Danish sound engineer MF Dub, celebrated for his work with Copenhagen’s Guiding Star Orchestra, contributed two variations. German dub stalwart The Dubvisionist from Hannover added one other pair.

Dr Markuse and Oliver Frost carry their distinctive touches, whereas Canadian maestro Dubmatix from Toronto closes proceedings along with his interpretation of The Door.

ABOUT TOTAL HIP REPLACEMENT

Complete Hip Alternative rose from the Aarhus scene, chasing a brass-driven sound that stored shifting as they travelled. They started with Marvel Why in 2018, then moved towards deeper textures on Bliss in 2020.
Their journey to Ghana in 2022 formed a daring chapter with Anyankofo, mixing highlife traces with Fanti vocals. They now tour Europe, testing every groove in actual time and pushing their music ahead by means of shared momentum.
