AC (Adrian Clarke) is the 2024 Calypso Monarch of Barbados after beating seventeen other contestants in the Courtesy Garage Pic-O-De-Crop Finals at the National Botanical Gardens on Friday 2 August.
The competition which concluded in the early hours of Saturday 3 August saw the twice-crowned former monarch (2001 & 2008) named calypso monarch for a third time.
Six thousand patrons were present at the Botanical Gardens for the final; AC performed the song Going Fuh Crown a self-penned number arranged by Roger Gittens. He told the National Cultural Foundation (NCF) “I feel great. I finally got the win that kept eluding me for years. I’ve been at second place in recent years so I’m just glad to now turn that level of consistency into a third win. Congratulations to all the competitors who did their best. This one feels damn good, it feels great.”
The 2024 Calypso Monarch can drive a Nissan X-Trail e-Power valued at $136 000, compliments of title sponsors Courtesy Garage, or $100,000 in cash. His winnings also include $5,000 in insurance from Cooperators General Insurance and $ 1,000 in fuel vouchers from SOL Barbados. He has until Wednesday, August 7, to make his decision.
