Washington Capitals fans, look away. Star captain Alexander Ovechkin was listed as week-to-week with a lower leg injury, per the team Tuesday.
The update added he will be evaluated by team doctors on Wednesday.
Ovechkin collided with the Utah Hockey Club’s Jack McBain during Washington’s 6-2 victory on Monday night.
On replay it appeared his left knee buckled from the leg-on-leg impact and he could not put much pressure on it as he skated off the ice.
If Ovechkin does have to miss some time it would interrupt one of the hottest streaks of his career.
The 39-year old scored twice Monday, taking sole possession of the league lead in goals (15) while having scored in each of his last five periods played.
With 868 career tallies, he’s just 27 short of passing Hockey Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky for most all-time (894).
Ovechkin has only missed 35 games in his 20 season career due to injuries, proving to be one of the most durable players in the league.
Washington is off Tuesday as it flies home from Utah and will practice Wednesday, where further updates on Ovechkin’s condition are expected.
