Ashley Joseph and Ashlea Jade Akinwumi will be hosting this Saturday’s Miss Caribbean UK (MCUK), whilst the judging team includes MCUK patron Dr Shaun Wallace, Bertha Joseph, Andraya Catlyn, Florian Valmy-Devillers and Amy Harris-Willock. However, all eyes at Shaw Theatre will be firmly on Carla Mark-Thompson (Aruba), Layia Johnson (Jamaica), Melody Hayword (St. Vincent and the Grenadines), Sara Jones (Trinidad and Tobago), and Shakyrah Davis (Antigua and Barbuda), as they battle for the title and to win the £1000 prize money.
The combination of their beauty, grace and personality will all be under the microscope of the judges in the Carnival wear, Evening gown and Charity rounds. At the event last year, the Charity round provided the most significant insight into the contestants’ confidence, passion and commitment as they answered questions in front of the audience with the spotlight firmly on them. This aligns nicely with the organiser’s celebrating beauty, intelligence, and cultural diversity ethos. As it is the 10th Anniversary celebration, this year’s winner will create some UK Black history of her own.
The evening will include comedy from Big Rich and music from DJ Piper. Former winners, special guests, and dignitaries will be in attendance, who have, over the years, contributed to making the event such a great celebration of the rich heritage of the Caribbean diaspora.
The grand finals of Miss Caribbean UK will take place this Saturday, 2 November, at the Shaw Theatre. For tickets, visit shaw-theatre.com.
