Jones’ status as an extension candidate this offseason has been somewhat unclear. Back in March, we heard that Jones was on the club’s extension radar, but GM Les Snead said just a few days later that he would not authorize a new deal for the talented defender in 2024.Earlier this month, however, Fowler himself reported that Jones is indeed a candidate for a second contract from the Rams, Los Angeles’ general unwillingness to pay big money to an off-ball LB notwithstanding. Fowler’s report from today notes that player and team have discussed an extension but have made no progress on…

As the United States presidential election approaches, the race to attract voters has intensified. Among the different constituencies the Democrats and Republicans are battling over, there is one that stands out: the Muslim community. Although Muslims constitute roughly 1 percent of the American population, they are an important voting bloc because they are concentrated in swing states, which are often narrowly won in elections. In this election cycle, the Muslim community seems more united than ever over a single political issue: the war in Gaza.  Any candidate hoping to win over large segments of Muslim voters would have to address…

Israel launched a wave of airstrikes across southern Lebanon early Sunday in what it said was a pre-emptive strike on Hezbollah, as the militant group said it had launched hundreds of rockets and drones to avenge the killing of one of its top commanders last month. The heavy exchange of fire does not appear to have ignited a long-feared war, but the situation remains tense. Meanwhile, Egypt on Sunday is hosting high-level talks aimed at brokering a cease-fire in the 10-month-old Israel-Hamas war in Gaza, which diplomats hope will tamp down regional tensions. The Israeli military said Hezbollah was planning to…

The Los Angeles Dodgers made a tough decision this week when they designated Jason Heyward for assignment, and it sounds like the veteran outfielder is taking it quite hard. Heyward became the odd man out in L.A. when Chris Taylor returned from a groin injury he suffered last month. On Saturday, Dodgers slugger Freddie Freeman was asked for an update on how Heyward is doing. Freeman had a very blunt response. “I don’t think he’s talking to anybody. I mean, would you guys be wanting to talk if you got fired from your job?” Freeman asked reporters. “I’ve had three…

Responding officers found the man brandishing a firearm and gave him several orders to drop the gun, which he refused to comply with, NYPD Chief of Housing Martine Materasso said at an overnight press conference. “The two officers discharged their firearms, striking the male,” she said.…
