On paper, Monday night’s game between two losing teams, the Bengals (5-8) and Cowboys (5-8), didn’t seem like it would be all that memorable.
But an inexplicable Cowboys mental error ensured their 27-20 loss wouldn’t be forgotten in Dallas for some time.
Here are five takeaways:
Joe Burrow gets help … from an unlikely source
It took them nearly all season, but the Bengals finally didn’t squander a great Burrow performance. All it took was a wild Cowboys error.
In Cincinnati’s eight losses entering Monday, Burrow had 21 touchdowns, three interceptions and 308.1 yards per game.
The Bengals were on the verge of losing another strong Burrow start when the Cowboys blocked punter Ryan Rehkow’s kick at the two-minute warning, but Dallas had other plans.
Cowboys cornerback Amani Oruwariye touched the loose ball and couldn’t field it, and Cincinnati recovered the fumble, setting up Cincinnati’s winning touchdown.
