Reports have now confirmed that a Chelsea forward is set to make a move to another premier league side in the 2024 transfer window.
As the summer 2024 transfer window progresses reports suggesting that Chelsea may consider selling forward Armando Broja as part of their attempt to boost transfer earnings and beat the FFP trap.
Newly promoted Ipswich Town have expressed interest in securing Broja on a loan deal, with an obligation to buy in the 2025 transfer window in a bid to strengthen their squad for the 2024/2025 Premier League season.
This is not the first time Chelsea will offer such a deal for a young talent as left back Lewis Hall completed a permanent move to Newcastle United following an initial loan option.
The proposed deal includes a clause that would make the transfer permanent for £30 million if Ipswich avoids relegation. For the transfer to be finalized, Ipswich must also agree on a contract with Broja at the end of the season.
At 22, Broja would add depth to Ipswich’s striker options, joining a unit that includes Liam Delap, George Hirst (who is out with a knee injury until October), Ali Al-Hamadi, and Freddie Ladapo, who is likely to depart.
Broja’s career has been marked by limited playing time and setbacks, including a serious ACL knee injury in 2023. Despite coming through Chelsea’s academy, he has only scored 2 goals in 11 starts and 27 substitute appearances.
His loan spell at Fulham was also challenging, as he was limited to just 8 substitute appearances due to the strong form of Rodrigo Muniz. However, Broja has earned 23 caps for Albania and recently played in Euro 2024, highlighting his potential.
A move to Ipswich Town could offer Broja the fresh start he needs to revive his career. His future at Chelsea remains uncertain, especially as his former squad number (19) has been reassigned to new signing Pedro Neto, and the club deal for Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix.
This transfer would mark Broja’s fourth loan away from Chelsea, following previous stints at Vitesse, Southampton, and Fulham. During the 2021/22 season with Southampton, Broja scored six Premier League goals, contributing to the team’s 15th-place finish. As he prepares to join Ipswich Town on loan, Broja will be looking for regular playing time and an opportunity to prove himself.
Broja will be Ipswich Town’s 10th signing of the summer, joining an already busy transfer window for the newly promoted club.
The club has previously secured Aro Muric from Burnley for £8 million, Ben Johnson from West Ham on a free transfer, Jacob Greaves from Hull for £15 million, Conor Townsend from West Brom for £500,000, Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City on loan, Jens Cajuste from Napoli on loan, Omari Hutchinson from Chelsea for £18 million, Sammie Szmodics from Blackburn for £9 million, and Liam Delap from Manchester City for £15 million.
