Chelsea Football Club have stepped up their quest to bring back Joao Felix to Stamford Bridge less than two weeks before the 2024 summer transfer window closes.
The London Club have reportedly reached an agreement with La Liga side, Atletico Madrid as they look to re-sign the Portuguese international. According to reports from the Athletic, the decision to sign Felix came as a result of Samu Omorodion’s proposed move to Stamford Bridge appeared to collapse due to problems finalising the Spaniard’s contract.
Joao Felix previously spent the second half of the 2022-23 season on loan at Chelsea, scoring four goals in 20 appearances for the Premier League club. The 24-year-old then spent last season (2023/24) on loan at Barcelona, which saw him score 10 goals and six assists in 44 games.
Atletico and Chelsea have also been in contact in recent weeks to finalise Conor Gallagher’s deal. The Chelsea midfielder has been expected to complete a €42million (£36m; $45.9m) move to Atletico but the deal is yet to be sorted between both parties.
He would become Chelsea’s ninth summer signing, following the arrivals of Tosin Adarabioyo, Omari Kellyman, Marc Guiu, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Renato Veiga, Caleb Wiley, Aaron Anselmino and Pedro Neto.
What Will Joao Felix bring to Chelsea?
The Portuguese international is known for his skills whenever he is upfront and also his abilities to create opportunities for his team-mates whenever they attack their opponents.
