A massive discrepancy in free throws attempted was a huge factor in Georgia’s 82-69 upset win over No. 6 Kentucky on Tuesday night in Athens.
The discrepancy heavily favored Georgia as the Bulldogs shot 38 free throws, compared to Kentucky’s 19.
Georgia had five players shoot five or more free throws, including two players that shot eight each.
Asa Newell was one of those two, and he finished as Georgia’s leading scorer with 17 points. Silas Demery Jr. was the other and he took full advantage of it, going 8-for-8 at the line, finishing with 14 points.
Lamont Butler led Kentucky with 20 points, four rebounds, three assists and four steals.
Brandon Garrison added 13 points off the bench and Otega Oweh scored 12 for the Wildcats.
Butler and Garrison were the only two Wildcats to shoot more than four free throws, much to the displeasure of the Kentucky faithful.
Georgia will face ranked opponents in its next three games, matching up against Oklahoma, Tennessee and Auburn. The games against Oklahoma and Auburn will be at home, where Georgia has now won 12 in a row.
Kentucky will also get three ranked opponents in its next three games in Mississippi State, Texas A&M and Alabama.
