Those within the Green Bay Packers organization believe quarterback Jordan Love could be good to go for this Sunday’s game at the winless Tennessee Titans. Love is coming off the MCL sprain he suffered late in the Week 1 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 6.
Love returned to practice on a limited basis on Wednesday. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Thursday morning that it wouldn’t be a surprise if the 25-year-old started at Tennessee’s Nissan Stadium. Dianna Russini of The Athletic later offered an update on Love’s recovery.
“I’m told he’s getting better by the day,” Russini said about the 2020 first-round draft pick. “Love is wearing a metal brace on his left knee and a black leg sleeve for added support. He tore his meniscus while at Utah State [in his right knee], so this isn’t the first time he’s quarterbacking with a brace.”
Backup Malik Willis started in Love’s place for this past Sunday’s matchup versus the Indianapolis Colts. He completed 12-of-14 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown to help guide the Packers to an overall record of 1-1. Willis began the week on track to get the nod for this Sunday’s contest against the club that made him a 2022 third-round draft choice.
Willis insisted on Wednesday that he “could care less” about proving the Titans were wrong after Tennessee traded him to the Packers in late August.
“I was told the most important factor as he works his way back isn’t so much how he feels while he’s on the field,” Russini added about Love, “but how the knee feels the following day after practice. At this point, the Packers are closely monitoring and hoping he can play.”
As of Thursday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook listed the Packers as 2.5-point underdogs for Sunday’s game against the Titans. Such a number may suggest that some believe the Packers will let Willis start against Tennessee and try to get Love right for the Week 4 clash with the Minnesota Vikings (2-0) on Sept. 29.
