Speculation about the job status of Jacksonville Jaguars coach Doug Pederson will only increase after his team fell to 0-4 on Sunday, but Pederson does not seem to think the speculation is valid to begin with.
Pederson was asked if he was concerned about his job status following the Jaguars’ 24-20 loss to the Houston Texans at NRG Stadium on Sunday. The Jaguars coach found the question “strange” and dismissed it.
“My status? I mean, no. Kind of a strange question, but OK,” Pederson said, via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk.
If the Jaguars can’t start winning, Pederson will have to get used to the questions, no matter how strange he finds them. There has already been some public speculation regarding a possible replacement, though the Jaguars at least kept it close and had a chance to win this week.
Pederson can point to a pair of 9-8 seasons to start his Jacksonville career — including a playoff win two years ago — but the team appears to have taken a step backward in his third season, which definitely could put his position under threat if things do not change in the next few weeks.
