Trevor Lawrence did not play in Week 10 as he tries to recover from a shoulder injury, and the Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback has officially been ruled out for at least one more game.
On Wednesday, Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson told reporters that Lawrence would not play in Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions. Mac Jones will start for Jacksonville once again.
The Jaguars have a bye in Week 12, so their decision to hold Lawrence out is unsurprising. Lawrence hurt his left shoulder on a hard hit during Jacksonville’s Week 10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. By keeping him out ahead of the bye, the Jaguars give Lawrence at least four weeks to rest and rehab.
Lawrence has what has been described as a significant AC joint sprain. While the injury is to his non-throwing shoulder, it still causes pain and makes throwing difficult.
Pederson sounded optimistic about Lawrence’s ability to play after the bye, but there have been rumblings about the former No. 1 overall pick having surgery.
Lawrence signed a massive five-year, $275 million extension with the Jaguars during the offseason. Jacksonville is 2-8 and almost certainly will miss the playoffs, so protecting Lawrence’s long-term health will be their top priority.
