Reggae icon King Jammy, who recently mashed up ‘Le Guess Who?’ in Utrecht The Netherlands, returns to the forefront of dub music with a powerful new release, bringing positive vibrations to the world through ten fresh dub tracks. The legendary producer, known for revolutionizing reggae and dancehall, has assembled a stellar Kingston 11 team to craft ‘King Jammy’s Unites The World With Dub’, uniting classic riddims with innovative 21st-century dub techniques.
Jammy’s latest project blends original Jamaican drum and bass with blazing horns, deep reverbs, and echoing effects that transform foundation riddims into contemporary masterpieces. Tracks like “African Queen” nod to the Rocksteady classic “Queen of the Minstrels”, while “Cry Freedom Dub” recalls the bassline of the 80s Dancehall hit “Peenie Peenie”. Other highlights include “Winds of Change”, a fresh take on the Taxi Gang’s “Revolution” riddim, and “Dub for Change”, a relick of Larry Marshall’s Studio One classic “Nanny Goat”.
Guided by Jammy’s expertise, a team including Andre Dennis, I Sax, and Brandon Harris injects new life into these riddims. Alongside his son John John and engineer Romeo ‘Shemmo’ Facey, Jammy masterfully fuses live instrumentation with digital sounds to create a dub experience in full Technicolor.
The album’s iconic sleeve design, created by illustrator Ellen G (My Lord Sound), complements the music’s unifying message. Drawing inspiration from Greensleeves’ legendary artist Tony McDermott, Ellen’s artwork portrays people of all races and genders captivated by Jammy’s masterful dubs, reflecting the universal power of reggae.
With a career that began under the mentorship of King Tubby, Jammy has spent nearly 50 years shaping reggae and dancehall history. Known for groundbreaking moments like Wayne Smith’s “Sleng Teng”, which launched the digital revolution, Jammy continues to innovate in 2024 while working on a King Jammy museum to preserve his legacy for future generations.
King Jammy’s Unites The World With Dub reinforces King Jammy’s reputation as a true master of the genre, offering a blend of history, innovation, and unity through the timeless art of dub. Prepare for a journey of heavy riddims, soulful echoes, and healing vibrations—this is dub at its finest.
