It was a sad day for Ecuadorian football after it was confirmed that Marco Angulo had died at the age of 22 just over a month after being seriously injured in a car crash.
The club announced the news of Marco Angulo death on its official social media account on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. The LDU Quito midfielder had been in hospital since the incident on October 7, 2024, in the south of Ecuador’s capital Quito.
The statement read thus,
“With deep sorrow and sadness, we regret to have to inform you of the death of our dear player Marco Angulo, LDU Quito, who play in Ecuador’s top flight.We convey our condolences to his family and his loved ones. His passing is an irreparable loss which will leave an indelible mark in our hearts.”
Marco Angulo joined LDU Quito on loan from MLS club FC Cincinnati with an option to buy in March 2025. He made 16 appearances for the club. His last appearance came on October 6 which was a day before the car crash.
