It has already been a busy offseason for the majority of teams in the American League East. Expected to once again be one of MLB’s most competitive divisions in 2025, don’t be surprised if more moves are still to come throughout the AL East.
With that in mind, here is one perfect free-agent fit for each of the AL East’s five teams:
Baltimore Orioles: Jack Flaherty
The Orioles need to find a front-of-the-rotation starter after losing Corbin Burnes to free agency, and Flaherty would offer tremendous upside.
Flaherty and the Orioles have history together, although the right-hander struggled after being traded there by the St. Louis Cardinals in 2023. His 6.75 ERA in just 34.2 innings was anything but impressive, but Flaherty has been a different pitcher since leaving Camden Yards. Last year’s combined 3.17 ERA in 28 starts between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Detroit Tigers has Flaherty set up for a new outlook in 2025, so why not head back to the Orioles and boost their rotation?
He has been linked to the Orioles throughout the offseason, and Baltimore needs more than a Charlie Morton signing to complete its rotation.
