Has there been any other Caribbean-born actor who has had such a prominent presence on British TV screens over the past six decades than Trinidadian Rudolph Walker? In 1972, he was one of few black faces on TV as he starred in Love Thy Neighbour, and he’s been playing Patrick Trueman in the UK’s most popular TV soap, EastEnders, since 2001.
His new autobiography, Walking With Dignity, will be released on 26 September, two days before his 85th birthday on September 28. This heartfelt memoir offers an intimate glimpse into his extraordinary career, during which he’s been a pioneering figure in British television. He has witnessed first-hand the evolution of attitudes towards black actors in the industry, making him a household name and a trailblazer for future generations.
“Walking With Dignity” is more than just a recollection of a remarkable career; it is a celebration of a life lived with grace and resilience. Rudolph shares candid memories of working with legendary actors such as Liz Taylor and Richard Burton, his Hollywood experience in King Ralph, and his groundbreaking portrayal of Othello early in his career. The book also explores his deep connection to Trinidad, the land of his birth, while reaffirming why the UK has remained close to his heart.
Walking With Dignity, will be available in paperback from all major bookstores and online from Thursday 26 September 2024. This is an opportunity for audiences to hear directly from one of television’s most respected figures as he shares his experiences, wisdom, and reflections on the industry he helped shape.
