A 2024 Gold Glove winner has become the latest MLB player to drop famed agent Scott Boras.
Kiley McDaniel of ESPN reports Thursday that Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh, who had previously been with Boras Corp., is switching his representation. Raleigh has decided to drop Boras in favor of Excel Sports Management.
The 27-year-old Raleigh produced 34 homers and 100 RBIs last season for the Mariners. He was also a stalwart behind the plate, taking home the first Gold Glove of his career on the strength of his excellent pitch framing. While Raleigh is still under club control through 2027, he is in line for a potential contract extension with Seattle heading into 2025.
As for Boras, his reputation took a hit last MLB offseason when most of his clients had to settle for one- or two-year deals after months of waiting out the free agent market. But Boras has some major blue-chip clients who are on deck in free agency this winter, so he should be able to bounce right back.
