The artist that I selected this week is YoungstaCPT. YoungstaCPT is a South African rapper and songwriter. The music that caught my consideration was “The Cape of Good Hope”. This music touches upon a number of totally different points, each socially and politically. Firstly of the music, he mentions somewhat glimpse of his upbringing. It says “I’m coming straight outta Cape City….Vonnis South Aspect is nog Wynberg op my kante, I had toys however I at all times performed exterior”. Then he quick forwards time to the current the place there are issues within the streets far more than there was. The precise line says “These days ouens promote medication on the primary highway, Searching for the white man within the blue van”. A few strains later he describes himself as dwelling the thug life. These are social ideas that he’s rapping about. As for the political view on this music he goes again in time once more. Rapping “Colonialism shook us, we acquired off to a rocky begin”. Colonialism modified the entire trajectory of Africa and the way the whole lot is run. He then goes to say “ I’ve by no means seen democracy, Skaap Kraal to Ottery”. The individuals have but to witness or be part of a real democracy. In the direction of the top of the music, he provides himself to establish with the place he got here from. The part reads “You’ll be able to test my space code, it’s my dwelling, oh no, sixteen pictures to ya dome, oh sure, we dangerous to the bone, no it’s not the town of gold, it’s my dwelling. Every little thing that he has mentioned within the rap is what he has skilled and seen together with his personal eyes. Whether or not or not there are political and social issues, doesn’t change the truth that Cape City is the place he got here from and grew up.
