The U.S. navy says it struck three Iranian oil tankers Saturday after Iran launched missiles towards two U.S. Navy warships within the area.

Two tankers together with the M/T Downy off the coast of Iran’s Kharg Island and the M/T Stark 1 close to Jask had been “completely disabled,” in response to CENTCOM.
A 3rd tanker, the M/T Kylo, also called the Noxen, was destroyed within the Gulf of Oman after its crew was directed to desert the ship, the U.S. navy mentioned. The tanker was not carrying oil on the time.
“Should you shoot at two of our ships, we are going to impose a fair larger financial price — taking out three of yours,” CENTCOM commander Adm. Brad Cooper mentioned in a press release.
“We won’t hesitate to defend American forces, and if needed, destroy Iran’s restricted and uncovered oil fleet.”
Iran earlier accused the U.S. of attacking an Iranian tanker close to Kharg Island within the Persian Gulf.
The strikes come almost per week after the U.S. and Iran resumed assaults following a couple of month of relative calm.
The battle started with U.S. and Israeli assaults on Iran on Feb. 28. Diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran have since stalled.
