UEFA is not just changing the format of the Champions League, they are also changing the theme song of the competition for the first time in over three decades.
This decision has triggered a mixed feeling among the fans of the UEFA Champions League are familiar with whenever a match is about to be played in the competition from the group stage to the final.
The now iconic Champions League theme music is Tony Britten’s 1992 adaption of the 1727 classical piece “Zadok the Priest” which was written by George Frideric Handel. The music has become synonymous with the competition and its most significant moments.
There is a significantly larger focus on the vocals and a lot less percussion, which reduces the power of the anthem making it a lot less atmospheric. Fans have taken to social media to voice their displeasure over the new changes.
It is yet to to be seen if UEFA will revert to the old theme song before the kick off of the 2024/25 new format. However, the draw for the group stage will held on Thursday, August 29, 2024.
