NEW ORLEANS, La. – The University of Georgia has confirmed that a student was critically injured in the attack on Bourbon Street early Wednesday morning.
UGA President Jere W. Morehead announced the news on the social media platform X, stating:
“I am deeply saddened by the devastating attack in New Orleans overnight, and I extend my sincere condolences to the victims, their families, and all those affected by this terrible tragedy.
“At this point, we have learned that Eisele was critically injured in the attack and is receiving medical treatment. I have spoken to the student’s family and shared my concern, support, and well wishes on behalf of the entire UGA community. I would like to express my gratitude to all the first responders who moved so quickly to help those affected by this senseless act of violence, as well as to the medical personnel who are caring for the injured.
“As we continue to hold the victims and their families in our thoughts and prayers, the University will do everything in its power to support those in our community who have been impacted by this unspeakable event.”
The Canterbury School in Fort Myers announced Wednesday evening that Elle Eisele, an alumna of the school, was that student. Another Canterbury School student, Steele Idelson, was also among those injured, a school spokesperson said.
In a statement, the school wrote:
“The Eisele and Idelson families are deeply grateful for the outpouring of thoughts, prayers, and offers of support for our daughters following the tragic attack in New Orleans. We are especially thankful for the exceptional care and compassion they are receiving at University Medical Center. We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to the first responders, whose swift actions may have saved our daughters’ lives. To everyone who has reached out with love and support, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
On its Facebook page, the school touted her as a biology major on a pre-med track.
Idelson headed to San Diego State University after graduation to study psychology, according to the school.
