Sometimes, Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels looks like a magician on the field.
Late in the first quarter of Sunday’s road game against the New Orleans Saints, Daniels nearly fell and fumbled while scrambling on a 2nd-and-goal. However, he managed to regain his balance and throw a 16-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Terry McLaurin.
Daniels’ improvisation skills are one reason the Commanders took him with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. When he won the Heisman Trophy in 2023, the former LSU star rushed for 1,134 yards and 10 TDs on 135 carries in 12 games.
Through his first 13 starts with the Commanders, Daniels has rushed for 590 yards and six TDs on 108 carries. He has also tossed 15 TD passes.
The Offensive Rookie of the Year candidate is giving the Commanders offense the juice it needs. Entering Week 15, Washington ranks fourth in the league in points scored (28.9). Last season, it finished 25th in points scored (19.4).
