Despite forcing a three-and-out to start the game, the Miami Dolphins were unable to capitalize.
The Dolphins muffed the catch on the ensuing punt return, which gave Green Bay the ball inside the 10-yard line.
Three plays later, Packers QB Jordan Love connected with WR Jayden Reed for the game’s opening TD.
It should be interesting going forward to see if the Dolphins can change the narrative in cold-weather games.
Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa is 0-7 straight-up in games in which the temperature is 45 degrees or below, according to Jacob Camenker of USA Today. When Thursday’s nightcap kicked off, it was below 30 degrees.
Later in the first quarter, Packers RB Josh Jacobs punched it for a one-yard TD run to extend Green Bay’s lead.
The score continues Jacobs’ recent dominance. In his last five games, Jacobs has seven TDs (one receiving), including a three-TD performance Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. Thursday’s first-quarter TD is Jacobs’ ninth TD of the season.
The Dolphins (5-6) come in winners of three in a row. Since his return from a concussion, Tagovailoa has thrown 11 TD passes and only one interception.
Green Bay (8-3) enters with back-to-back wins over the Chicago Bears and 49ers.
The first quarter could not have gone much better for the Packers on a chilly night at Lambeau.
