On a 10-yard TD pass in the first half against Oklahoma State on Friday, Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders set a school record for passing yards in a season, breaking Koy Detmer’s mark of 3,527 yards set in 1996.
Through nearly three quarters, Sanders had four TD passes.
In dominating against Oklahoma State, Sanders also added a bullet point to his resume as perhaps the top quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft class.
Per the latest Big Board of ESPN’s Mel Kiper, Sanders is the fourth-best college prospect overall. His teammate, cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter, is ranked No. 1 by Kiper.
Per Pro Football Focus, however, Sanders is QB3 behind No. 2 Cam Ward of Miami and Jalen Milroe of Alabama — a ranking that seems hard to understand following the Tide QB’s three-interception game in a 24-3 loss to Oklahoma on Nov. 23.
In its latest mock draft, PFF projected Sanders to go to the New York Giants with the second overall pick.
PFF noted Sanders has “good zip on passes within 25 yards” and “mental and physical toughness to step up and take a hit while delivering a throw.”
Among his weaknesses, PFF noted Sanders’ “ball speed can die on him in the air beyond 40 yards” and his “release speed is average-to-below-average” on passes.
But much will shake out in the draft process before the first round in Green Bay on April 24, 2025.
Entering play Friday, No. 25 Colorado was 8-3.
