Bulls guard Coby White sealed Chicago’s comeback 114-110 win over San Antonio on Monday with an emphatic slam dunk over Spurs center Victor Wembanyama.
With under 30 seconds remaining, White received the ball on the perimeter in a one-point game, 111-110, on a kick-out pass from shooting guard Zach LaVine. After initially setting up for a shot from beyond the arc, Spurs forward Jeremy Sochan ran White off the three-point line.
But that gave White an open lane toward the rim, and he dribbled to the basket and posted a slam dunk over the outstretched arm of Wembanyama, who was late getting in position for the block attempt.
The dunk gave Chicago a 113-110 lead after it entered the fourth quarter trailing by 15, 97-82.
The come-from-behind win was fitting considering the Bulls (17-19, 10th in Eastern Conference) have recently surged after falling five games below .500 — 10-15 — on Dec. 8.
Chicago has won four of its last five games, including a 13-point win over the Knicks (24-13, third in Eastern Conference) on Saturday.
White has been hot. He’s scored at least 20 points in five of Chicago’s last six games.
He followed a 33-point effort buoyed by nine made threes against the Knicks with 23 points on 9-of-18 shooting, including 3-of-6 from deep, against the Spurs.
White, the No. 7 overall pick of the 2019 NBA Draft, is averaging 18.5 points, 4.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game this season.
