Need to freshen up your fantasy roster? These three players remain available in most leagues and should be considered top targets for Week 9.
1. Bo Nix, QB, Denver Broncos (rostered in 25% of Yahoo leagues)
It seems 15% of fantasy players took our advice by adding Nix in Week 6. Back then he was available in 90% of leagues, now he’s on 25% of rosters. That’s still pretty low for a quarterback with seven touchdowns, one interception and an average of 17.74 fantasy points in his last five games.
Nix set career marks with 28 completions, 284 yards and three touchdowns against the Panthers on Sunday finishing with the second-most fantasy points (29.76) of any quarterback.
This week he’ll face a Baltimore team allowing a league-worst 291.4 yards passing per game. In last week’s 29-24 loss to Cleveland, they gave up 334 yards, three scores and 23.56 fantasy points to backup quarterback Jameis Winston.
With the Ravens allowing the third-most fantasy points per game (21.72) to opposing quarterbacks, Nix remains a great option for fantasy managers.
2. Matthew Stafford, RB, Los Angeles Rams (rostered in 39% of Yahoo leagues)
Not comfortable starting a rookie like Nix? How about a 36-year-old, former Super Bowl champion? Stafford doesn’t have great fantasy numbers this year but he hasn’t had much to work with either.
After leading the Rams with 1,486 yards as a rookie, wide receiver Puka Nacua missed five games after suffering a sprained posterior cruciate ligament against the Lions in Week 1. Cooper Kupp, the team’s leading receiver from 2019-22 also missed five games with a sprained ankle.
Both were back to face the Vikings in Week 8 and to the surprise of no one, had a positive effect on Stafford’s numbers. With his top two playmakers back in the fold, Stafford had a field day, throwing for 279 yards and a season-high four touchdowns.
