California’s rail authority has put a longtime Gov. Gavin Newsom advisor in command of the state’s beleaguered bullet practice mission after its former boss, Ian Choudri, submitted his resignation letter Wednesday evening.
Division of Finance head Joe Stephenshaw has been appointed interim CEO of the mission, the Excessive Velocity-Rail Board stated at a Thursday assembly.
Choudri resigned on Wednesday after a stint marred by scandal surrounding the long-delayed and massively costly mission, in line with CalMatters.
“We thank Mr. Choudri for his service and his contributions to the high-speed rail program, and we want him and his household nicely,” board chair Steve Kawa stated.
“The governor appointed new members of the board this 12 months to convey stronger accountability, oversight, and transparency to the mission,” he added. “At present’s information displays the board’s dedication to accountability and transparency, according to the governor’s mandate below new board management on the authority.”
“Californians deserve a mission they’ll belief, and the governor will proceed to insist on that from everyone engaged on it,” Kawa stated.
Newsom appointed Stephenshaw director of the Division of Finance by Newsom in 2022, the place he’s instrumental in growing the governor’s yearly price range proposals.
Earlier than that, he labored in Newsom’s workplace as a Senior Counselor on Infrastructure and Fiscal Affairs.
Members of the board didn’t specify how lengthy Stephenshaw is predicted to serve.
This can be a growing story and might be up to date.
