Train managers from the Rail, Maritime and Transport union have started the new year by calling a strike, which will affect many busy routes.

It will see a reduced service run from London Euston to several West Midlands hubs including Wolverhampton, Crewe and Manchester.

An RMT spokesperson said: “It is wholly unacceptable that replacement managers can be paid around £500 per shift, about double what our Avanti members earn—while not providing the same service for passengers.”

Avanti has called the strike action “disappointing”.

Here is how the year ahead looks for strikes.

Who will be striking in 2025?

All information was correct at the time of writing.

RMT was also behind a strike on the Elizabeth line on New Year’s Eve, for 24 hours from 9pm on December 31 to 9pm on New Year’s Day.

The RMT Union has announced industrial action will affect Avanti West Coast services on January 2, along with all Sundays from January 12 to May 25.

No further industrial action from other operators has been announced.

The British Medical Association held a walkout last June as part of an ongoing dispute between resident doctors and the government.

There are no plans for further strikes this year.
