Will this be the season the Buffalo Bills finally beat the Kansas City Chiefs in the playoffs?

The Bills beat the Chiefs 30-21 in Sunday’s home game. With the loss, the Chiefs can no longer join the 1972 Miami Dolphins and the 2007 New England Patriots as the only teams to finish the regular season unbeaten in the Super Bowl era.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes seems confident they could earn payback in the playoffs. After the game, NFL Films cameras caught Mahomes telling Bills QB Josh Allen, “We’ll see you guys soon.”

Perhaps that explains why Allen didn’t seem satisfied in his postgame news conference.

“Given our history, we tend to meet in the playoffs, so again, we’re not there yet,” Allen said. “We’ll focus on that when we get there.”

The Bills have won their past four regular-season matchups against the Chiefs. However, they’ve also lost three straight postseason games to K.C. Two were by seven points or less.

Allen’s elite play could end Buffalo’s postseason misfortunes. Through 11 starts, he ranks seventh in the NFL in yards passing (2,543), sixth in TD passes (18) and fourth in QBR (72.6). Per Pro Football Reference, he has posted a career-low interception percentage (1.5 percent).

Meanwhile, Mahomes’ numbers have dipped slightly. He’s 10th in the league in TD passes (15) but has logged a career-high interception percentage (3.2 percent) in 10 starts.

Against the Chiefs, Allen proved he can keep delivering in clutch situations. Late in the fourth quarter, with the Bills leading 23-21, the QB rushed for a 26-yard TD on a 4th-and-2.

“I’m picking Josh Allen if we have a draft now to start a franchise,” an anonymous NFL executive texted The Athletic’s Mike Sando after Buffalo’s win.

If Allen keeps outplaying Mahomes, don’t be shocked if Buffalo finally overcomes its postseason failures against K.C. As of Monday, ESPN’s Football Power Index gives the 9-2 Bills better odds to win Super Bowl LIX (13.1 percent) than the 9-1 Chiefs (11.6 percent).
