The first quarter of Thursday’s women’s college basketball matchup between Arkansas and No. 6 LSU couldn’t have gone much better for the Razorbacks.

Arkansas only trailed by nine points, 23-14, at the end of the first period. Against an undefeated LSU squad, the Hogs showed plenty of fight in front of a home crowd inside Bud Walton Arena.

Through the final three quarters, however, the Tigers showed why they’re one of the most feared teams in women’s college basketball, taking down Arkansas, 98-64.

Kailyn Gilbert led LSU in scoring off the bench with 16 points, and was one of four Tigers to reach double figures.

Arkansas guard Izzy Higginbottom continued her hot start to the season, leading all scorers with 27 points. Higginbottom was one of two Razorbacks in double figures, as Carly Keats also scored 18 points.

The loss drops Arkansas to 7-9 overall and 0-1 in SEC play, while LSU remains unbeaten at 16-0 and 1-0 in SEC play. As of Thursday evening, the Razorbacks are the only SEC team with a losing overall record.

Arkansas will travel to No. 5 Texas on Sunday, while LSU will host Auburn in Baton Rouge.
