Two weeks into the NFL season, Carolina Panthers head coach Dave Canales decided to bench second-year quarterback Bryce Young.
After a rookie season in which he threw 11 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, Young had hoped to get off to a much better start in 2024.
That wasn’t the case, as Young had thrown three interceptions and zero touchdowns after the first two games of the season, leading to his benching.
Backup Andy Dalton started the next five games before Young was inserted back as the Panthers starting quarterback.
Since then, Young has been playing the best football of his professional career, and he looks like the player the Panthers hoped they’d get when they selected him No. 1 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft.
The Panthers are 2-2 over their last four games with Young back at the helm, with one of those losses being on a last-second field goal against the back-to-back Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs.
