This weekend, the Kansas City Chiefs will visit the Buffalo Bills in one of the season’s biggest matchups. The game will significantly impact the AFC playoff race and might decide who will have home-field advantage this postseason.
The Chiefs are on an incredible run. They’re 9-0 this season and have won 15 games in a row, including a playoff game at Buffalo, another at Baltimore and a Super Bowl. They haven’t lost since Christmas Day last year.
The Bills are on an impressive streak of their own, winning five straight. They’ve scored at least 30 points in each of their last four games and seven of their 10 games this season. Their only losses are on the road in Houston and Baltimore.
The Chiefs and the Bills are the top two teams in the AFC, but a Buffalo loss could drop the Bills behind the Steelers if Pittsburgh beats the Ravens in Week 11. A loss would also mean the Bills would be three losses behind the Chiefs in the standings. It would almost ensure Buffalo will have to go to Kansas City if the two teams meet in the postseason.
The teams are pretty even in offensive yards. The Chiefs average 346.7 a game, and the Bills average 343.2. Buffalo does score more points than Kansas City, 29.0 to 24.3.
The Chiefs have the advantage defensively. They only allow 289.9 yards and 17.9 points per game, while the Bills give up 336.1 and 19.3 points.
The real test for the Bills is whether they can break up another impressive streak the Chiefs have. Kansas City has not allowed more than 28 points in 31 straight games. It will be interesting to see which unit has the most success — the Bills’ high-flying offense or the Chiefs’ stalwart defense.
If the game is close late, the Chiefs will have the advantage. Seven of their wins have come by seven points or less, and some have been decided in the final minute of the game. They are used to playing tight games and seem to strive in high-pressure situations.
The Bills have beaten the Chiefs the last three times they’ve played in the regular season, but Kansas City has come out on top over the previous three postseason tilts.
If the Bills don’t win, Kansas City’s winning streak will move to 16. Next up on the Chiefs’ schedule are games against the Panthers and Raiders. This game is significant not only for the Bills but also for the AFC. It is too early in the season for the Chiefs to have as big of a lead on the field as they could have after this weekend.
