As the rapper delivered his energetic performance, the family of Doc Shebeleza erupted in joy, dancing and singing along in what became the most poignant moment of the memorial service.
Victor “Doc Shebeleza” Bogopane passed away at the age of 51 after a prolonged illness, leaving behind an indelible mark on South African music. Known for his charismatic stage presence and unique sound, Doc Shebeleza was a pioneer in the Kwaito genre, influencing countless artists and cementing his place in the hearts of fans.
During an interview with the SABC, Cassper reflected on the significance of his song in honouring Doc Shebeleza. When asked how it felt to create a track that introduced so many to the kwaito legend, Cassper responded with heartfelt humility:
“It’s an honour. When I made the song, I just thought it was cool. I didn’t think it would be such a great tribute one day. A few weeks ago, it was played at FNB Stadium during Chris Brown’s concert to 100,000 people, and they went crazy. Doc Shebeleza sent it to me and said thank you for honouring me while I was still alive. So, it’s an honour, it’s a privilege, and I can only thank God because it was never in my plan.” Cassper said.
The memorial service was not only a commemoration of Doc Shebeleza’s contributions to music but also a testament to the unity and joy his artistry inspired. Fans, family, and friends came together to celebrate his life through music, laughter, and heartfelt speeches. Cassper’s performance of Doc Shebeleza served as a reminder of the power of music to connect generations and keep legacies alive.
