To begin the 2024-25 season, discussions surrounding the NBA’s declining viewership have been rife. Multiple media members have shared their opinions on a perceived sudden drop in interest.

During a Dec. 20 news conference, JJ Redick claimed the media contributed to the declining interest in the NBA. He noted that multiple media outlets negatively cover the sport, pointing out flaws rather than highlighting the talent and exceptional moments in a game.

“I don’t think we have done a good job of storytelling, of celebrating the game,” Redick said. “If I’m a casual fan and you tell me every time I turn on the television that the product sucks, I’m not going to watch the product. And that’s really what has happened over the last 10 to 15 years. I don’t know why. It’s not funny to me.”
