The company, which is part of the world’s second-largest cinema chain, has faced difficulties since the Covid pandemic, with audiences failing to return to previous levels.
Cineworld, which also owns Picturehouse, entered administration in July 2023, grappling with nearly £4bn in debt. This year, it has been working on a restructuring plan, which saw five sites close in October.
Despite the company previously denying more cinemas would shut, it has now announced another six locations will be rolling credits for the final time in the coming months.
Which Cineworld locations are closing?
The following six locations are set to be shut, with their final screenings scheduled for either this month or January 2025:

Why is Cineworld closing these cinemas?
In July 2024, Cineworld was said to be considering a major restructuring, which could include closures.
Restructuring allows a company to rework its balance sheet, restructure debts and release cash into the business.
It comes after Cineworld emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the US late last year.
When a company files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, it means it intends to reorganise its debts and assets while remaining in business.
The company’s shares also plunged almost 99 per cent in the five years to 2023 due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the enforced closure of its cinema sites.
Cineworld UK then collapsed into administration on July 31.
The first Cineworld Cinema opened in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, in July 1996. A second Cineworld opened the following year in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.
