When more NFL head-coaching jobs become available at the end of the season, rumors about Deion Sanders‘ future could run rampant.
On Monday, Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio noted there could be eight head-coaching vacancies at the end of the season. Would any pique the Colorado Buffaloes head coach’s interest?
On Thursday, Fox Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported Sanders has had no conversations with NFL teams.
During a Tuesday episode of FS1’s “Speak,” Sanders indicated he doesn’t want to coach in the NFL, saying, “I love it where I am.”
Staying in Boulder would make some sense for Sanders. The program is starting to gain momentum in his second season. The Buffaloes (7-2) are No. 17 in the College Football Playoff rankings and in a position to win the Big 12.
Still, that may not preclude NFL teams from courting the 57-year-old Pro Football Hall of Famer.
Teams with a top-10 draft pick may entice Sanders. His son, Colorado quarterback Shedeur, is one of the top prospects in the 2025 NFL Draft. He’s tied for third in the FBS in TD passes (24 in nine games), and Tankathon rates him as its No. 1 QB.
During a Thursday episode of ESPN’s “Get Up,” NFL insider Adam Schefter suggested some teams may be willing to hire Sanders and draft Shedeur as a package deal.
“The point is, this is just going to be an option that’s out there,” Schefter said. “We’re not saying it’s happening. This is one of those options that’s going to heat up and be in play this offseason. Is there a team out there that’s in a position to get Shedeur Sanders that also wants to hire Deion Sanders?”
Sanders’ success in college may not translate to the league. Plus, his brash personality could rub some players the wrong way. Despite the potential concerns, he would help a franchise make a splash.
Even if his interest level in the league seems unclear, Sanders could be one of the most intriguing names in the upcoming coaching cycle.
