Chelsea’s head coach, Enzo Maresca has shared his thoughts about Josh Acheampong whose future has been uncertain in the past few months.

The teenage defender was frozen out of the first team and development team because he refused to sign a new contract with the Blues. Enzo Maresca was speaking in a pre-match press conference where he confirmed that he is not happy with the player’s situation but those in the right authorities are looking to sort out the contract details.

What did Enzo Maresca say about Josh Acheampong?

Enzo Maresca expressed his disappointment with the current situation of the player who future is in doubt in the last few months.

He said,

“I feel it’s a shame for Josh. These kind of games could be an opportunity for him. I had a chat with him personally about three weeks ago. It was a very good, positive chat, but since then I didn’t speak with him again. It’s a shame because I think Josh can potentially be a top player. He’s still 18 and very young. He can be very important for Chelsea. Our intention is not to lose him. So the first thing we need to do is find a solution about his contract. The most important thing right now is that he gets minutes and enjoys his football. It’s a bad situation for him. I don’t know the people that are trying to solve the problem and if they are helping him or not. The only thing I can say is I really like Josh and I would like to have him here with us, but it is not possible.”

The 18-year-old is reportedly looking to leave Chelsea at the end of his current contract which ends in 2016. He is considered one of the brightest prospects at Cobham as he could play in the right back and center back which has seen him attract the likes of Liverpool and Real Madrid.
